Causes of Decline of Mughal Empire
- Rise of Maratha and failure of Aurangzeb to estimate and so accordingly accommodate them within the power structure by providing regional autonomy.
- Prolonged war with Marathas drained resources of the empire while at the same time ruined trade and the industry in the region.
- Deeply dissatisfied peasantry with exploitation by feudal setup of zamindars, nobles and state. The suffering resulted in stagnated agriculture and impoverishment of farmers. Poverty created law and order problems as they engaged in robbery etc.
- Aurangzeb’s Religious orthodoxy and attitude towards the Hindu rulers was disastrous to Mughal empire.
- Wars of succession came heavy on public purse as well on public administration. Engagement of succeeding kings in luxury further undermined it.
- Deterioration of character of nobilities weakened the structural setup of the Mughal empire. They engaged in corruption and mutual fighting over petty things (bickering).
- Absence of political nationalism among people. Rather, they were loyal to persons, communities, castes etc.
- So broken Mughal empire could not withstand frequent invasions of Nadir Shah, Ahmad Shah Abdali and later by British. They further drained wealth, ruined trade and industry and destroyed the military power.
The Maratha and Aurangzeb are failure at that time. A long te of war makes maratha trade, industries ruined. After that , the people are dissatisfied and they were compelled to robbery because of poverty.
Aurangzeb’s believe in religious atitude was a disaster for Mughal empire.
This makes them a fighter for petty things , they also became weaker.
The broken Mughal empire are drained in the absence of Nadir Shah , Ahmad Shah Abdali and another by Britishers.

And battle with Nadirshah, Ahmedshah and British further promoted harm of wealth, industry and trade are the main reason of declined of mughals empire……
